In light of increased federal immigration enforcement activity across the region, Cook County has stepped up to support our local municipal partners and provide resources that will support residents.
Executive Order from President Preckwinkle
Recently, President Preckwinkle signed an Executive Order stating that civil immigration enforcement is prohibited on any County property, including parking lots, vacant lots, and garages. Cook County is a welcoming county and this Executive Order continues that commitment. Cook County explore every tool possible to protect residents.
Municipal Public Safety Support
Another way Cook County has been involved in this response is support of the Village of Broadview where there is a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility and there has been significant first amendment activity.
Cook County Emergency Management and Regional Security (EMRS) has established a coordinated response framework to support municipalities amid increased federal immigration enforcement activity. EMRS has maintained daily communication and on-site coordination with the Village of Broadview and convened joint operations with the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, City of Chicago OEMC, Illinois State Police, Illinois Emergency Management Agency, and mutual aid partners to align on resource needs. A Unified Command has been activated at the Maywood Courthouse to streamline communication and deploy County resources including barriers, signage, and protective equipment to ensure the Village of Broadview has the tools and support necessary to maintain public safety and community stability.
EMRS continues to monitor conditions closely and stands ready to support additional municipalities should related activity increase elsewhere in suburban Cook County.
